Greatly appreciated being given this opportunity by The Collie Association to judge Smooth Collies at Open Show 2 @ Baginton on 5.7 26. What a brilliant idea to run 2 such shows, one after the other, to cover both Roughs & Smooths with an independent BIS judge for each. Great to assess the breed through all stages of its development. Of the 20 exhibits just 5 were absent.

1 Lusty's Blamorder Masterpiece; 11m b/m with a quality coat & markings; fabulous, clean & tapering, headpiece with slight stop & with parallels; gd forehand; moderate bone; gd length of neck with arch; ex structure; well ribbed; moved ok in rear and was so correct in front with the breed specific action that was a joy to see & justified him taking RBD in addition to BPIB; subsequently BPIS at both shows so certainly one to watch.
2 Young's Wynele Ace Of Spades; 11m tri bred in the purple; flat skull; slightly heavier wedge of a head but with smooth taper & parallels; heavier bodied but well made & angulated; balanced with well sprung rib; oval feet; correct in croup, tailset & carriage; moved out well & his heavier build is no fault whatsoever but simply acknowledges the fact that dogs mature differently; he is plenty promising as befits his breeding.

1 B Masterpiece
2 Holmes & Lusty's Blamorder Starman; 17m sable/white; such gd head & body proportions; clean wedge of an expressive head with flat skull & parallels; correctly placed stop; touch thicker in neckline; moderate bone; so well angulated; well ribbed & deep; can still just firm a tad at hock but absolutely breed specific action when coming on; maturing beautifully & will surely hold his own against his peers

1 B Masterpiece
2 Moores' Manordeifi High Roller; 18m sable/white; loved the clean lines of his refined head with its gradual taper w/o prominent cheekbones nor pinched muzzle; parallels divided by a slight stop; gd overall structure & angulation with moderate bone; correct in croup, tail length & carriage; just appeared a tad low overall for ideal balance; used his muscled rear to positive effect.

1 Metcalf's Koczkodan Well I Never; just turned 3yrs; handsome tricolour with white in all the right places so as to immediately take the eye; head of balanced proportions with such a clean wedge, flat skull, expressive ears, slight stop & parallels; eye somewhat small & round rather than medium & oblique; gd overall shape & structure, scoring in rib & depth; correct backline, croup & tailset; ex coat & texture; just a tad proud at elbow when coming on.

1 Seager's Blamorder Magic Maker With Freejack JW; 3.5yrs sable/white litter brother to the ultimate BB/BOB; sheer breed type & nothing significant worth changing; lovely head with its flat skull, slight stop, expressive ears, clean cheeks, gradual taper & parallels; so well made, bodied, & deep, through to ex croup & muscled rear; moved with breed specific accuracy & a long stride; have I missed something as I fully expected him to be Ch titled?
2 Wensley's Ch/Int/Multi Ch Constella Hazy Cosmic Jive JW; 4yrs tri, albeit now rising 5yrs, that the catalogue shows as100% Blamorder bred; I immediately liked his balanced proportions; handsome headed with all parts where they duly belong; gd neck & shoulder with length & arch; well ribbed with gd depth; went well with that breed specific front action; wasn't making the best of his topline or hocks but I entirely put that down to the ever increasing heat by now at as opposed to his conformation, & appreciated the chance to go over him

1 Benton's Ch Oakestelle Artemis ShCEx VW; recently turned 9yrs b/m of fabulous breed type & a truly amazing mover; perfect balance of combination of skull & foreface; clean wedge of a head with smooth outline & gradual taper plus slight stop & parallels; flat skull; enviable eye & ear; scores in neck & angles; ex structure with depth, albeit needs no more body condition; correct in croup, tailset & carriage; but it was her movement that was pretty rare being, frankly, textbook with a tireless gait even in this heat. RBB, BVIB, BVIS x 2
2 Moores' Blamorder Ridin On A Rainbow To Manordeifi; 8.5yrs tri I believe (having not noted it!) of a notably heavier type through head, body & bone; perfectly decent structure, & in gd coat, hence disappointed that she moved away rather cowhocked & came back crossing in front.

1 Wensley's Blamorder Starstruck By Versatilis; 17m sable/white litter sister to 2nd in JD; quality clean head with flat skull, lovely oblique eye, slight stop & parallels; ex, arched, neck & forehand; well made & angulated; level backline plus depth; scores in croup & muscled rear; sound effortless mover making such gd use of the ring; her likelihood is surely a winning future & wish her well.
2 Jerrett's Coldelee Busy Bein Fabulous; 15m sable/white; what fabulous ears ideally placed atop a flat skull; head with gradual, smooth, taper; slight stop & parallels; well bodied & angulated with correct degree of moderate bone; flexible pasterns w/o weakness; hocks well let down & she used them well on the move where she certainly impressed; at a stage where showed less scope & that bit cobbier but that is simply the maturing process at work; a quality teenager to look out for.

1 Moores' Blamorder High Hope's For Manordeifi: just turned 5yrs tri of utmost quality & a proven dam in her own right inc the 2nd in PGD; cracking, clean, tapering headpiece with flat skull, parallels & enviable eye & ear; ex neck with arch; so well angulated; deep bodied & well sprung rib; ex coat of ideal texture; correct in croup & tailset; such a well muscled rear; delighted that she moved breed typically in accordance with her "tick box" conformation; hope she is campaigned against her peers at the highest level when in this form.

Super class of Chs to end on
1 Benton's Ch Blamorder Double Or Quits Of Oakestelle JW; just turned 2yrs b/m; litter sister to OD; total class; total soundness that blew me away with its textbook accuracy & effortless long stride; such an expressive head from flat skull & ears that "talk" through slight stop, mid-taper, & parallels; eye catching neckline; faultless shape & structure; perfect depth, rib & loin; correct, breed specific, front so perfectly demonstrated; that gait was a privilege to watch. BB, BOB, BIS x 2
2 Holmes & Lusty's Ch Blamorder Makers Mark JW; quality sable/white litter sister to OD & with such similar points creating ex breed type enhanced by more than a touch of style; she has that clean tapering head with an expressive set of ears on a flat skull; slight stop & parallels; ex neckline; ex angulation; ex rib & depth; ex coat; in terms of overall balance I just preferred that of the above finding her that bit longer cast; rightly wears her Ch crown with justifiable pride.
